Thanks for stopping by.
I am Joy Olisa, a corporate finance advisor and self-proclaimed bibliophile.😊
I write book reviews to help you choose the best books. In addition, I share insights on career, personal development and life.
My Professional life
I am a Chartered Accountant and CFA Charterholder with over 9 years’ finance experience.
Working with a big-4 consulting firm, I advise clients on their transactions and deals.
My journey has led me across external audit, finance control, business valuation, due diligence, deal advisory, mergers & acquisitions, and financial reporting.
In my finance career, I’ve had the privilege of working on complex financial deals across different countries. The challenges are immense but the thrill of contributing to the success of a business makes the effort worthwhile.
Did somebody say books?
Books have been an integral part of my life since childhood.
We didn’t have many material possessions. But one thing I did have a lot of was books. In fact, my mum was mistaken for a bookseller because of the sheer number of books she bought for me. And even that, I exhausted quickly.
As I grew up, my reading taste evolved. Story books got replaced by Grid Blyton. Grid Blyton by Pacesetters, and then Karen Kingsbury books. One book that remains ingrained in my memory from my teenage years is “Tough times never last, but tough people do” by Robert Schuller.
These days, I find myself drawn to Thrillers and Personal development books, but who know what I’ll fall in love with next?
Book facts about me
Once I connect with an author’s writing style, I eagerly devour their other works. Some of my favourite authors are Cal Newport, Austin Kleon, Michelle Obama, and the latest addition Ayọ̀bámi Adébáyọ̀.
I read books on subjects I’m fascinated by, and I also read on subjects I disagree on.
When I read a book about a topic, I sometimes look for a book against that topic, maybe not polar opposite, but one with a contrarian view.
Other Interests
Beyond books and finance, I enjoy music. I picked up a musical instrument recently, and I document my progress weekly.
I also find joy in exploring new places. It broadens my horizons and offers fresh perspectives that enriches my personal and professional life. I love to take and share beautiful pictures of nature and places.
In addition, giving back to the community is a value I hold dear. I’m actively involved in a volunteering initiative that offers support to older people
I absolutely love interesting conversations, so if you’re up for one, don’t hesitate to say hi.
